Clifton Suspension Bridge

This iconic bridge is one of the UK’s if not one of the world’s favourite bridges, with over 4 million vehicles passing over the bridge every year.

Essential repairs had to be undertaken to the bridge deck and support chains, so we collaborated with design engineers and the bridge engineers to come up with a completely bespoke system that allowed the bridge to stay completely open, and after taking the weight restrictions into consideration of the chains, we designed and built a series of “pods” that climbed the chains from the bridge deck to the top of the towers allowing the repairs to be undertaken safely

We could only build 5 pods at a time, and each one then “leaped-frogged “ the other to continue with the works, a walkway was retained so workers could access the pods, which was built in ringlock system scaffolding

The project is taking 12 months as each chain is being refurbished separately,
